Bhubaneswar: Following the police assault on a journalist on Monday near Naveen Nivas, DGP Prakash Mishra today held a discussion with journalists in presence of Information minister Arun Kumar Sahu and Government’s deputy chief whip Sanjay Das Burma and assured the journalists to take action if anyone is found guilty.
DGP Mishra also declared that henceforth, jackets mentioning ‘media’ will be provided to the press so that they would be identified easily during any law and order situation. One ACP would coordinate with journalists for their safe reporting of any event.
Mishra assured the journalists that he was directly inquiring into the assault matter and would submit his report as soon as possible.
Two India Reserve Battalion (IRB) constables were suspended yesterday following the assault on a journalist while he was covering the scuffle between student Congress workers and police near CM’s residence.
This issue was also raised in the Assembly today by opposition leaders when the journalists covering the Assembly proceedings boycotted the reporting for some time. The leaders pressed for action to avoid repetition of such kind of incidences.
